The images in this slide show were captured in 2003 using a Nikon E5700 digital camera (TTL, electronic view finder, 5 mb images) while skiing at Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta. The overcast and storming conditions created a very moody atmosphere.
Typically, I would ski with the camera attached to my chest and would stop as the composition presented itself, always being careful of not getting snow (water) into the camera or losing the rest of my skiing party. The camera and battery were great in low temperature (-20 C) conditions and the only challenge was keeping my fingers from quickly going numb in the cold.
I have processed the images multiple times in the past and eventually settled on a painterly effect derived from a combination of techniques via Lightroom 3, Topaz Detail plugin and Photoshop Elements. The final interpretation has essentially boosted the contrast and removed fine detail to simplify the mountain landscapes.
