Great Horned Owl, Canmore, Alberta, Canada – October 2011

Great Horned Owl image captured handheld with a Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro lens.  This owl is an ambassador for the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation based in Coaldale, Alberta, Canada.  The owl was partially back lit with bright mid-day sun and there was enough wind to ruffle the feathers during slight gusts.

The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation is Alberta’s first privately licensed raptor rescue and conservation organization and is situated on 70 acres 2 hours south of Calgary.  You can read more about this organization at:  http://www.burrowingowl.com/
